Import and export
Import / Export in the File menu opens the conversion panel. Import as a new document converts other formats to Markdown; Export current document converts the current document to other formats.
Import
- Choose Import as a new document, click Choose a file to import and select an HTML, DOCX or text-based PDF file.
- Click Read and preview, then check and correct the converted Markdown in Import preview.
- Click Create Markdown document. The result becomes a new, unsaved document.
The original file is not modified. Content that cannot be converted, such as tracked changes and comments in DOCX or text shown as images in PDF, is listed in the conversion report.

Export
- Choose Export current document, then choose Offline HTML, DOCX, PDF or Image (PNG) under Format.
- For PDF, you can set Paper size and Margins (mm), and select Page numbers in the footer, Start each Heading 1 on a new page and Add bookmarks. Click Page preview to check page breaks in a native macOS window.
- Click Choose export location, then click Export file.
The default export location is the document’s folder, and the file name comes from the first heading. Exports use a light, print-friendly color scheme by default; select Use the current theme to use the current theme instead.

Notes
- Size limits: Markdown and HTML 10 MiB, DOCX and PDF 50 MiB; PDF up to 2,000 pages.
- Legacy .doc files are not supported, and OCR is not supported. HTML is supported in UTF-8 only.
- Web images are not downloaded during import; they stay as links.
- An export cannot overwrite the original Markdown file.
- Documents taller than 16,384 pixels cannot be exported as PNG. Export them as PDF instead.
