Workspace search

Search in workspace finds text in all Markdown files in the current workspace.

  1. Open a folder as a workspace. Without a workspace, the search page shows “Open a workspace to search all files.”
  2. Press ⌘⇧F and type 1 to 4,096 characters.
  3. Results are listed in the order they are found, each with its file name and line number. Click a result to open the file at that line.
  4. To end the search early, click Stop.

Search scope

  • Only .md, .markdown and .mdown files are searched.
  • The saved content on disk is read; unsaved changes are not in the results.
  • .ignore files are respected, and so is .gitignore in Git repositories.
  • Hidden files, hidden folders and symbolic links are skipped.
  • Whole word can be selected.

Notes

  • Up to 2,000 results are listed. When the limit is reached, “Limit of 2,000 results reached; narrow your search” appears.
  • Each result’s preview is up to 500 characters.
  • Files that cannot be read do not stop the search; their number is shown as “Unreadable files”. Files with an extremely long single line that exceeds the 8 MiB search buffer are counted there too.
