Raw blocks in writing view

Markdown that writing view cannot typeset is kept in the document as raw text. Folora does not delete or rewrite it, and the surrounding content is typeset as usual.

Shown as raw blocks

The following appear in writing view as raw blocks labeled with their type. The text inside a block can be edited directly as plain text:

• Front matter: front matter between two --- lines at the start of the document
• Footnote: footnote definitions that contain more than one paragraph
• Link definition: the [id]: URL of a reference link
• Container: blocks that start and end with :::

Single-paragraph footnotes can be edited directly in writing view; Folora shows their numbers and back links automatically.

Shown as raw characters

• HTML: shown as source in a monospaced font. It is not rendered and not rewritten.
• Reference links and images ([text][id]) and wiki links ([[page]]): the original characters are kept.

When source view is required

The following cannot be fully preserved in writing view. The whole document switches to source editing, and the notification bar gives the reason:

• Link definitions or footnote definitions inside a block quote or list
• A $$ formula or ::: container that is not closed

In this case the notification bar shows “This Markdown extension is preserved. Edit it in source view.” or names the specific syntax. To edit it, choose Source under Editor mode in the toolbar.
